SGCC Dress Code
Golf dress codes help to preserve the sport’s identity and etiquette, while ensuring that both newcomers and
seasoned players alike are comfortable at the club. This translates into attire that balances respectability with
functionality and comfort.
For Men
Collared shirts are preferred; however golf specific crew neck shirts, or v-neck shirts with sleeves are acceptable. Casual
pants or tailored shorts of mid-thigh length or longer are required. Shirts should be clean and free of offensive illustrations
or slogans. While jeans without rips or tears are acceptable, they are not recommended. Sweatpants, cut-offs, athletic gym
shorts, and tank tops are not permitted.
For Women
Collared shirts are preferred; however, athletic shirts designed for golf and sleeveless tops with a collar are acceptable;
however, tops should provide appropriate coverage and not be revealing. Bare midriffs, crop tops, tank tops, and excessively
low-cut tops are not considered acceptable golf attire. Casual pants, capris, skorts, collared dresses, and tailored shorts of
mid-thigh length or longer are required. While jeans without rips or tears are acceptable, they are not recommended.
Footwear
Soft-spike or spikeless golf shoes are preferred. Light-tread running shoes and sandals with secure straps are also
acceptable. Footwear must be worn at all times on the golf course and practice facilities. Dress shoes, work boots, shoes
with rugged or studded soles, high heels, and metal-spike golf shoes are not permitted on the course or practice facilities.
At its core, golf dress codes help safeguard the essence of the sport. They are not meant to be restrictive, but rather
to enhance the overall golfing experience with the main reasons for these regulations to:
▪ Respect the heritage, history, and traditions of the game
▪ Enable players to feel a sense of belonging, camaraderie, and community
▪ Reduce distractions or confusion on the course for all players
▪ Ensure the safety of the players
In other words, embracing a golf dress code isn’t just about adhering to rules; it’s about honoring the legacy of the game.
Spectators are held to the same dress code standards as players.
